Cheapest pints in the UK revealed
The cheapest place to buy a pint of the UK’s favourite beer brands has been revealed in new research.
Using prices from pub chain JD Wetherspoon as a marker for general prices across a locality, the research by QR Code Generator analysed 600 areas across the UK to discover where the cheapest pint could be bought.
It assessed the price of Carling, San Miguel, Guinness, Coors, Stella Artois, and Budweiser, and discovered that the city of Preston was the cheapest with a pint costing just £3.07 on average.
The cheapest possible pint was a Coors in Preston, which came in at just £2.49 a pint, meaning a round of four drinks would receive change from a £10 note.
Other cities
Swiftly following Preston was Bangor, where a pint of Carling was just £2.58, a Guinness was £3.09 and a pint of Stella Artois was only £3.61, and the average cost across the city was £3.08.
Wrexham, now made famous due to its football team behind owned by Hollywood stars, was the third cheapest city, with a pint costing only £3.11 on average.
Stoke-on-Trent was fourth with an average pint costing £3.12 and even a premium pint like San Miguel only costing £3.61, which was 21% cheaper than in London.
Sunderland is the final city in the top five, with an average pint coming in at £3.14.
London
Despite London being expected to be the priciest city, there were locations where it was possible to get a sub-£4 pint in the capital. The boroughs of Hackney and Croydon both offered such pints, with Ealing costing just £3.46 for a pint and Coors at just £2.79.
Islington and Greenwich offered a mid-point of around £4.11 and £4.70 respectively, with central zones unsurprisingly the priciest across the country, with pints in Camden costing more than £5 and a Bud in Westminster costing £4.99.
While London is notorious for having a premium cost for most things, Londoners, and visitors to the city will be pleased to find that there are some areas where they could find a pint only a fraction over the national average of £3.38 per pint, as found by the study.
