Can this simple ingredient amplify beer’s aroma and flavour?

Global hop supplier Yakima Chief Hops (YCH) has introduced a ”groundbreaking” brewing ingredient which can boost a beer’s aroma and flavour.

The product, named HyperBoost, is a high oil hop extract that has been described as “important” and “exceptional” after being trialled with 68 breweries across 21 different countries.

Speaking about the innovation, YCH technical marketing manager Tessa Schilaty said that HyperBoost, which was previously known as YCH 701 Trial, “excels at amplifying hop aroma and increasing final beer yield”.

Schilaty explained that HyperBoost has been designed to easily pour in the fermenter as a dry-hop addition” and “can be used anywhere pellets are normally used, including cold-side applications”.

Schilaty added: “It’s been thoroughly battle-tested by our brewing partners. The positive feedback confirms that we have achieved something exceptional. HyperBoost is one of the most exciting product launches that I’ve worked on. It fills such an important need in the industry right now – a product that can increase beer yield and improve flavour.”

Concentrated at 40-70% oil through an inventive supercritical CO2 extraction technique, HyperBoost is said to deliver “a high concentration of survivable compounds in variety-specific aroma attributes” and is already “ready to ship in 100g and 1kg aluminium bottles in Citra, Simcoe, Mosaic, and more”.

According to Schilaty: “Dosing will vary by process, equipment, and desired outcome” but advised that “most brewers are using HyperBoost in the fermenter as an active or post-fermentation dry hop addition” but added that “it can also be used in the whirlpool”.

YCH has been contacted for further commentary and insight into the new trials and which styles it anticipates HyperBoost will assist in brewing. More information on how it will change brewing recipes and become implemented worldwide will be shared in due course.
