Fell Brewery acquires Pelican Bar in Manchester

Independent South Cumbian beer producer Fell Brewery has acquired its second Manchester venue, Pelican Bar, in the city’s Northern Quarter.

Speaking to the drinks business, Fell Brewery managing director Michael Dixey said: “The acquisition of Pelican Bar enables Fell to extend our presence into Manchester, significantly enhancing our brand visibility. The bars side of our business is crucial to our success, and we are excited to begin full operations at Pelican.”

For the immediate future, Fell Brewery will continue to operate Pelican under its existing name and brand, before undertaking a redesign in the coming months, to incorporate Fell’s branding and venue look and feel. Fell has, essentially, purchased the operating company so is taking on the brand, employees and lease of the site as part of the deal.

The acquisition will see the brewery encompassing existing Pelican employees into its wider team and looking to learn from their experience and knowledge of both the venue and the area.

Describing the acquisition, Dixey explained: “We’re excited to bring Pelican into the Fell Brewery family. Our goal is to build on the reputation and charm of Pelican whilst infusing it with the quality, atmosphere, and community spirit that Fell venues are known for. We’re looking forward to welcoming both loyal customers and new visitors.”

Over time, Fell Brewery has assured that visitors to the Pelican Bar can look forward to an expanded selection of Fell craft beers, alongside a curated menu of guest beers, natural wines, spirits, soft drinks and snacks.

Highlighting how far the business has come, Dixey reiterated how Fell Brewery, based on the Cartmel Peninsula, has “an ethos of forward-facing invention whilst championing the rich traditions of northern brewing” and “aims to create memorable experiences for beer enthusiasts across the north of England”.

Fell Brewery already currently operates bars in Kendal, Penrith and Chorlton as well as the Royal Oak pub in Cartmel.
