LeBron spends $100k on French wine after Paris Olympics

Following his gold medal victory in the men’s basketball competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics, LA Lakers legend LeBron James dropped large amounts of cash on expensive wine and food.

Alongside fellow basketball star Draymond Green, James went on a boozy trip across the French countryside, indulging in the best of the country’s food and drink, including US$40,000 on Champagne and US$32,000 on DRC alone.

Speaking to the US Sun, a source said that James and Green were “connoisseurs” in wine, drinks and food, and surrounded by friends and close family had a variety of “nice dishes and drinks”.

The celebrity consultant told the news outlet: “The order of wine and drinks was five star, with some unique wines, some of the most expensive in the world, as both of them love wine, they really know their wines, that is for sure.

“LeBron loves French wines, and we also got him some cognac because he enjoys some nice cocktails too.”

According to the source, the duo spent more than US$75,000 on wine and spirits, including two bottles of 2004 Leroy Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru at US$9,400 per bottle.

The Burgundy classic is farmed biodynamically since 1988 and the bottle comes from a small 0.43 hectare plot, with the first vintage produced in 1989.

In addition, the players also dropped the dollars on four 2018 bottles of La Tache from Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, which cost a staggering US$32,000 in total.

Four bottles of 2016 Le Pin from Bordeaux’s Pomerol were also purchased. Speaking about the most recent vintage from the Chåteau, db Bordeaux correspondent Colin Hay described it “like diving into a crystal clear lake at night”.

In terms of food, the pair hired a private chef and ate Petrossian’s limited edition Tsar Imperial Caviar Coffret, Charloais beef, and white truffles. Only 100 cases of the Imperial Caviar were made with the duo spending US$2,960 on the product.

According to the source, despite the heavy spending, the stars will be returning for another food and drink experience in France next year.

The consultant said: “They love it here, they come to spend vacation in the area almost every year, and they want to enjoy the finest french food with the finest wines and drinks.”
