Historic Cava producer partners with chef

Henkell Freixenet-owned sparkling wine producer Segura Viudas has teamed up with Vicky Sevilla, chef of the Michelin-starred Arrels in Sagunt, Valencia.

Sevilla is described by the Michelin Guide as “a young cook with lots of determination (she opened the restaurant when she was just 25), showcases modern, personal cooking with a strong connection to the local area (in the Valencian language, Arrels translates as ‘roots’) which can be savoured on her exquisite tasting menus featuring delicate dishes with finely-textured sauces.”

The restaurant secured its star in 2021.

As a nod to the name of Sevilla’s restaurant, the campaign with Segura Viudas is called Respect the Roots, and is intended to show how her dishes can be paired with the producer’s wines.

“My collaboration with Segura Viudas is a celebration of our shared values—authenticity, tradition, and a deep respect for our roots,” said Sevilla. “These Cavas and wines, with their distinct character, complement our dishes, enhancing the dining experience and honouring our culinary heritage.”

The partnership, which is set to run into 2025, will involve several activations, as well as digital and social media promotion of dishes to complement Segura Viudas’ wines.

Among the wines to be featured will be Seguras Viudas Brut Vintage, and the Rosé, the latter of which is a blend of Trepat, Pinot Noir and Garnatxa that has spent a minmum of 12 months on the lees. Winemaker Manel Quintana’s tasting notes include: “Youthful fruit aromas of strawberry, redcurrant and grenadine”. The producer, which has around 800 years of winemaking heritage, though was founded as a brand in 1950, will also be working with Sevilla to promote pairings for Homenaje, its new range of still wines, which includes the Blanco, a blend of Macabeo, Garnatxa Blanca and Chardonnay, and a Rosado expression.
