Frescobaldi announces new CEO

Tuscan wine titan Gruppo Marchesi Frescobaldi has named Fabrizio Dosi as its new CEO, succeeding Giovanni Geddes.

Dosi, who joined the group as COO in 2019, began his career in consulting before moving into the luxury watch sector, working as senior director of marketing at Bulgari, before continuing down the fashion route, taking up the position of Asia-Pacific GM and then CEO of Giorgio Armani Hong Kong. After this, Dosi moved into the beverage world, though coffee, not wine, working at Illy first as Asia president, and then worldwide vice-president of its B2C business unit.

Though he has worked in an eclectic range of sectors, Dosi described the wine world as a “real passion”, and noted its roles as “one of Italy’s most important economic and cultural drivers”.

“Thus,” he continued, “it is a great honour as well as a significant responsibility to guide such a prestigious group, and I extend my sincere thanks to the entire Frescobaldi family for the trust and support that have always shown me.”

Indeed, according to Lamberto Frescobaldi, the group’s president, Dosi’s varied CV is a major asset: “Fabrizio came to Frescobaldi with rich experience in a wide range of sectors, from fine food to high fashion, then passionately immersed himself in the world of wine. His ability to see the world from different positions has been of immense value to us and we have benefitted every day from his great generosity.”

Frescobaldi also noted Dosi’s “finely-tuned and broad-ranging analytical skills”.

In his capacity as CEO, Dosi will oversee the group’s numerous brands, including prestigious Super Tuscan producer Ornellaia, Montalcino’s Tenuta Luce, and Domaine Roy & Fils in Oregon.

Gedddes, who joined Frescobaldi in 1996 and announced his retirement last autumn, will remain as a member of the group’s board of trustees.

the drinks business met Frescobaldi at this year’s Vinitaly to find out why the president is upbeat about the state of the wine world.
