South African winemaker claims SITT Award 2009
Elgin producer Catherine Marshall was revealed as the winner of the Specialist Importers Trade Tasting Award in London this morning. Marshall beat short-listed candidates Wines of Rioja, Wines of Chile and journalist Christine Austin to win the prize.
The SITT Award is presented to a group, individual or company which is deemed to have done the most for the independent sector of the UK wine trade in the last 12 months. Pippa Woods from Seckford Agencies, the UK agent for Catherine Marshall Wines, collected the winner’s decanter on Marshall’s behalf and said: "Catherine has a passion and commitment to all her customers, she will be delighted to receive this award. When we first met Catherine and discovered her wines, you remember why you go into the wine trade – for the spirit of the people."
The annual award is voted for by various trade representatives including SITT exhibitors and independent wine merchants across the UK while the decanter for the award was donated by Wine Sorted and Schott Zwiesel.
