New CEO at Direct Wines
The world’s largest independent wine merchant Direct Wines has appointed Simon McMurtrie as chief executive. McMurtrie has been with Direct Wines nearly a year, joining the company in 2007 as international managing director, and replaces Oliver Garland, previous CEO.
Prior to joining Direct Wines, McMurtrie was global chief executive of International Masters Publishers – a company that provided direct marketing publications in print and media format.
Direct Wines, under its Laithwaites, Sunday Times Wine Club and other business partner brands, is the leading direct-to-consumer wine merchant in the world. The company has annualised sales in excess of £300 million and now has operations in the USA, Switzerland and Australia. In the UK alone, Direct Wines delivered over 56 million bottles of wine in the last 12 months.
