Wetherspoon predicts difficult times
Echoing the results of its competitors, JD Wetherspoon has reported underperforming sales for Q2. The pub group said like-for-like sales dropped 3.2% in the period on the back of a decrease in bar sales
– in particular, sales of premium lagers and spirits – although sales of real ale, food and coffee, grew strongly.
In a statement, the company warned: “We continue to remain cautious regarding the outlook for this financial year. We are confident that a non-smoking environment will result in growth in both bar and food categories in the medium and long term.”
