Small (batch) is beautiful for United

Three bourbons from McLain & Kyne are now available in the UK from United Brands. The “very small batch” products, namely Jefferson’s, Jefferson’s Reserve and Sam Houston, are being targeted at top end on-trade accounts. The bourbons are said to embody the characteristics of the American political figures they are named after.

The two products in the portfolio named after Thomas Jefferson are described as “elegant and sophisticated”. Sam Houston, the first president of the republic of Texas, was contrastingly far more robust – and earned himself the nickname “Big Drunk”.
Jefferson’s (RRP £34.99) is aged between 6 and 10 years, while Reserve (RRP £54.99) has 12 to 17 years of aging. Sam Houston has an RRP of £44.99.
Following the reintroduction of small batch bourbon in recent times, McLain and Kyne make use of very small batches as a way of combining the best of small batch and single cask production methods.
The company forms part of Castle Brands, with Trey Zoeller, descendent of the Mclain and Kyne families with bourbon-producing history dating back to the late 18th century, as vice president of bourbon operations.
