New sales force for Whyte & Mackay
Whyte & Mackay has recruited a new 70-strong national sales force and set aside £20 million to invest in its core brands. UK off-trade sales director Simon Oldham says, “introducing a sales team of this size demonstrates the level of confidence we have in both the quality and potential of our brands”.
The Glasgow-based distiller has been a regular feature in the news in recent months as Vijay Mallaya’s UB Group has sought to acquire it. However this has not distracted the company: according to ACNielsen, the flagship brand was the UK’s top-performing spirit in the eight-weeks to Christmas.
The new sales team includes a mix of experienced drinks professionals alongside a number of new graduates. “It is an exciting time for the company as we have high aspirations for both the brands and the business… Going forward we now have the opportunity to engage with consumers that we have never reached before, across both the on- and off-trade.”
