Mouse & Grape opens wine and cheese shop

Mouse & Grape, the online company focused on offering curated cheese and wine pairings, has now opened its first shop and bar.

Developed in 2020 by Jessica Summer, Mouse & Grape began to offer cheese and wine hampers available for online retail the following year. The businesses has now grown to a point where it has its own bricks and mortar site, opened on Marsh Road in the London suburb of Pinner on 7 November.

“I’m still having plenty of pinch me moments, especially when I hear my fantastic team share the Mouse & Grape story and that excitement to be reciprocated by customers,” Summer told the drinks business. “Social media has without a doubt been a crucial component in the growth of my business, but having our first tangible space feels like a big next step that I couldn’t be prouder of.”

At present, the @mouseandgrape Instagram account has more than 8,000 followers.

Asked about shop’s location, Summer said: “As a Pinner resident, I could first hand feel that the high-street was calling out for a wine and cheese shop and deli-bar. This sentiment has been echoed by the customers, which is really reaffirming. Our beautiful space is only a few minutes’ walk from Pinner Station, and 20 minutes on the tube from Baker Street. I believe the store also embodies the strong community that Pinner has.”

The shop/bar offers customers a choice of 40 wines, half of which are available by-the-glass, alongside plates of artisanal cheeses. Mouse & Grape hampers are also sold on the premises, and the space is available for private tastings.

On the topic of cheese and wine pairing, Summer said: “I wish white wine and cheese pairings received as much praise as red wine and cheese. Often white wine pairs greater with cheese because their typical crisp and tropical fruit notes cut through cheeses’ rich and creamy flavours better than full bodied reds.”

“So far one of my favourite pairings of Fourme D’Ambert blue cheese with dark chocolate buttons has surprised and delighted our customer base,” she continued. “This paired with my recommendation of Sauternes dessert wine is a really ‘Finale’ choice of our cheese plates.”

Summer was also the recipient of Social Media Campaign of the Year at the 2024 edition of The Drinks Business Awards for her April Fool’s stunt which involved a (fake) drinkable wine and cheese combination in a can.
