Arlberg Weinberg welcomes wine lovers to Austria this December
The Arlberg Weinberg wine conference, taking place from 5-15 December in Lech, Austria, offers attendees an array of tastings, masterclasses, and winemaker dinners led by industry leaders.
Arlberg in the Austrian Alps is best known for being the cradle of alpine skiing, but what makes it truly unique is the quality of its offerings off the slopes. Home to numerous celebrated restaurants and beautiful cellars, it is the perfect location to host the annual ‘Arlberg Weinberg’ event series in December.
The 10-day wine and gourmet event series promises ‘indulgence for all the senses’ for wine enthusiasts with numerous wine tastings, masterclasses, winemaker dinners and culinary events to suit even the most discerning palate. From 9-11 December, the event will also host the Arlberg Weinberg symposium featuring speakers on formative and relevant industry topics ranging from terroir and natural wines to the impact of global warming on viticulture. The event is an opportunity for international journalists, winemakers and viticultural experts worldwide to gather in Lech to explore the latest trends in wine, taste curated Austrian and international wines, forge new contacts and revive old friendships.
This year, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay are a significant focus with international speakers. On 9 December, the drinks business editor-in-chief Patrick Schmitt MW, Canadian sommelier and influencer Cokie Ponikvar from Cokiesworldofwine, and Wine Enthusiast writer at large Aleksandar Zecevic will be delving into the perception of the varietals around the world. Two leading Austrian wine critics, Willi Balanjuk and Daniela Dejnega, will also be curating a tasting of the finest Austrian Chardonnays and Sauvignon Blanc on 10 December.
Discussing the subject of possible diverging of terroir and natural wines, Isabelle Legeron MW from Raw Wine and Andreas Wickhoff MW from Austria’s Kamptal will be joined by winemakers Sara Pérez from Spain’s Priorat and Germany’s Katharina Wechsler to host a symposium on 11 December. The discussion will be moderated by Simon J Woolf, author of The Morning Claret.
Over 10 days, the event will host more than 30 gourmet events, tastings and masterclasses open to the public. The complete Arlberg Weinberg 2024 programme and tickets are available now on the Lech-Zurs website.
