Find sustainable closures compatible with current bottling lines

Crealis CEO Michele Moglia tells db how innovation and service in the closures sector can help to create greater opportunities for growth.

Crealis Group has been leading innovation in the wine and spirits sector with its sustainable closure solutions for some time now. In fact, its latest standout product, named Symbiosis – a groundbreaking sparkling foil made primarily from FSC-certified paper combined with aluminium – is completely plastic-free and ensures a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to conventional polylam foils of the same dimensions.

This was backed up by the Independent Life Cycle Assessment with support from Deloitte in 2024, which compared Derma75 premium foil with Symbiosis foil with a paper top, using a standard sized premium sparkling foil.

Crealis CEO Michele Moglia tells db that its creation demonstrates the company’s strong commitment to environmental responsibility, highlighting that “Symbiosis offers both sustainability and practicality”, because it is “compatible with existing bottling lines, making it a seamless choice for producers”.

In addition, Moglia points out that “in the spirits industry, Crealis also boasts a wide portfolio of closure solutions. This includes bar tops available in various materials, sizes and customisations, as well as capsules that not only seal and protect, but also guarantee product integrity”.

He explains: “These closures serve as a strategic asset for brand identity and play a key role in shelf visibility,” adding that capsules guarantee and safeguard hygiene, protecting bottles from dust and potential contamination – essential in an era of heightened concern over various bacterial risks.

Moglia explains: “I’m proud to represent a global group. Yet we are all united by the same mission: to provide tailor-made, sustainable solutions for every type of wirehoods, from capsules in various materials to T-bar closures and pourers.”

Additionally, he says: “For sparkling wines made with the traditional method, we also offer crown caps and bidules.” This, he explains, is to “meet all customers’ needs under one roof”.

Indeed, the experience and the service Crealis showcases is a one-stop-shop, offering whatever the customer needs. Moglia says: “What sets us apart is not just the variety, but also the customisation and quality we deliver at scale. Whether for premium wines or spirits, we have the expertise to dress the top of any bottle with precision and style.”

Crealis Group stands out by offering innovative closure solutions that cater to two key trends in the wine and spirits market – tapping into premiumisation and sustainability.

This means that, Moglia asserts: “As consumers shift towards the ‘drink less, but drink better ’ philosophy, customisable closures elevate the premium experience, enhancing the aesthetic and functional aspects of any bottle.”

The business has also dedicated a part of its portfolio, named Maestro, to offering solutions that are “best in class” and “closer to jewellery than packaging”. With this in mind, Moglia hints that there will be “further advancements in both sustainability and premiumisation” in the future of the business.
