Rampur Distillery has announced the launch of Rampur Barrel Blush into the UK market (RRP £65 for 70cl). The Indian whisky is matured in American Bourbon barrels before being finished in Australian Shiraz casks selected by master distiller Anup Barik.

Rampur Barrel Blush will then be released in Europe and the US later this month, the distillery has said.

Radico Khaitan, established in 1943, is the largest Indian beverage alcohol company and also one of the country’s oldest whisky distillers. Three of its distilleries are based in Uttar Pradesh at the base of the Himalayas, where all of Rampur’s whiskies are distilled, matured and bottled.

Its brands are available in 102 markets worldwide, and president of international business Sanjeev Banga recently told db that the company plans to “take India to the world”. He said in an interview: “A beginning has already been made in ensuring that all fine dining Indian restaurants across the globe carry Indian brands. Similarly, Indians are now one of the most active travellers and shoppers and we aim that all airport duty-free shops should give the rightful shelf space to Indian luxury brands.”

For the launch of Rampur Barrel Blush Banga said that “as the whisky market continues to evolve”, Rampur’s latest release “offers us the opportunity to present our craftsmanship to whisky enthusiasts worldwide”.

Kunal Madan, vice president of international business at Radico Khaitan, said the distillery has experimented with “unique maturation techniques to create a whisky that authentically reflects our heritage”.

He added: “We have continued to push boundaries with the launch of Rampur Barrel Blush. The use of Australian Shiraz casks continues Rampur’s legacy of experimenting with different cask combinations and compliments Rampur’s characteristic of fruity and floral whisky.”
