Bonhams expands ‘pivotal’ team in Asia with new head of region
Bonhams auction house is expanding its wine and spirits team in Asia with the appointment of a new head of department and a senior wine specialist, as it prepares to open its new Asia HQ.
Terrence Tang joins the auction house from Zachys Wine Auctions, where he headed up Asia, as the new head of department. In his new role, he will oversee Bonhams’ Wine and Spirits operations across the region and spearhead strategies for business and client development. He is also a Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin.
Bonhams has also appointed Lucien Michel as a senior wine specialist, who was previously a private client relationship manager at Edrington, and before that worked at Sotheby’s as an account manager, driving retail and private sales. He has over a decade of experience working in Asia, managing high-net-worth clients across the region and curating bespoke brand experiences, driving client growth and engagement in the wine and spirits world.
The appointments are part of the company’s global strategy to expand its Wine & Spirits department, and coincide with the opening of the new Asia headquarters in mid-October at Six Pacific Place.
The move follows a recent expansion of the US Wine & Spirits department, and the appointment of Amayès Aouli as global head of wine & spirits in January 2024. In an interview with db, Aouli revealed his plans to innovate, create new formats of sales and partner with producers and charitable organisation.
The team has a pipeline of “strategic initiatives”, it said, which will “elevate client experience”.
Aouli welcomed Tang and Michel, noting that “Asia and Hong Kong are the backbone of the market and crucial for Bonhams’ growth” and the appointment would strengthen that team at a “pivotal moment”.
“Their profound market insight and strong client connections will empower us to act as the most trusted advisors as we embark on this new chapter in our new home, providing the best services to our discerning clients across the globe,” he said.
