Maison Courvoisier unveils Year of the Dragon collection for Lunar New Year
Maison Courvoisier has collaborated with Chinese artist Jiannan Huang on The Dragon Collection, a three-part bottle series to celebrate Lunar New Year 2024.
The specially designed three-part bottle series for 2024 will consist of Courvoisier Year of the Dragon Blend, L’Essence and XO.
Huang, who was born in the Year of the Dragon, said the partnership with Courvoisier has allowed him and his team to “fuse enamel techniques and traditional Chinese art”.
The first Cognac in the collection, Year of the Dragon Blend, consists of a rare Courvoisier blend comprising eaux-de-vie from previous Dragon Years, the oldest of which dates back to the last century.
Bottled at 42% ABV, the Year of the Dragon Blend is comprised of four exceptional crus: Fins bois, Borderies, Petite Champagne, and Grande Champagne.
Thibaut Hontanx, Maison Courvoisier chief blender, said the “elegantly pronounced” spiciness and floral notes of Cognac from the Borderies were chosen specifically “for the Chinese palate, which holds a deep appreciation for these flavours”.
He said: “Drawing on the contributions of three former Chief Blenders who have lent their expertise to the eaux-de-vie selection, our combined expertise shines through in this Year of The Dragon blend.”
The Cognac has been designed and produced by Huang Jiannan Art for this special edition with a ceramic pedestal. Each bottle is a crystal decanter crafted by manufacturer Baccarat.
The second release in the collection showcases a special edition L’Essence de Courvoisier, the bottle and box of which display Huang’s original dragon painting. L’Essence is a blend combining more than one hundred eaux-de-vie sourced from crus within the Cognac region, namely Grande Champagne and Borderies. With an ABV of 42%, the limited-edition release will be available globally in limited quantities across the UK, Canada, US, Southeast Asia and China.
The final release is a special edition of Courvoisier XO. The liquid remains unchanged but will be housed in a box featuring Huang’s red dragon design. The bottle will be adorned with the head of a dragon.
L’Essence has an RRP of £3,000 in the UK, while XO’s RRP is £135.
