Top 10 Halloween drinks
Halloween is just around the corner and it’s time for db to offer its latest version of the best cocktails to celebrate this year’s spookiest occasion.
Bloody Mary
An obvious classic, and like any traditional cocktail – or jump-scare in a horror film – it doesn’t really need much changing. Vodka, tomato juice, a touch of lemon juice, a few drops of Tabasco and Worcestershire sauce. Perhaps a shot of gin. Garnish with a celery stick…and a plastic eyeball. Done.
Moontini
This is a simple change to make a classic cocktail extra spooky. Add charcoal powder to a traditional martini, and add a ball of ice.
Bloody Sangria
Take a normal Sangria recipe, adding either sparkling or still water, and simply up the darkness with some blackberries, blueberries or other dark fruits. Perhaps add a sweet dark fruit liqueur as well for added spooky oomph.
Pumpkin cocktail
Although some might question whether a pumpkin is good for anything but carving, these tasty treats should prove otherwise. Either add pumpkin juice to an Old Fashioned or add to a warm apple cider recipe with a stick of cinnamon for an autumnal beverage worthy of Halloween.
Brain jelly shot
This is easy but guaranteed to please at a party. Simple get a brain shaped jelly mould, fill with strawberry jelly and add vodka or the spirits of your choice. Perhaps add some chunks of fruit for good measure.
Raven
The darkest and moodiest of the Halloween cocktails. Add Jäegermeister, Coca-Cola, spiced rum and ice. Perhaps add blue Curaçao and a bit of silver food dye to make it more glittery and spooky or a more purple than black raven.
Witches Brew
The secret to a good Witches Brew is getting it to look as scarily green and florescent in colour as possible. Aim for a combination of either melon or lemon liqueurs, looking at the brightest colours possible, with Cointreau and lemon juice for a tart, tongue-twisting drink.
Halloween Margarita
A personal favourite over in db towers, this one is dead simple and deadly delicious. Simply take some apple cider syrup, tequila and lime juice, over cubes of ice and garnish with blood oranges.
Halloween Punch
Personal preferences abound for this Halloween party favourite, but making it red, green, yellow or black are a must. A great recipe is cranberry juice, apple juice or cider, ginger ale, spiced rum. Another option is a Guinness punch with some spicy rum additions or one which is mainly ginger ale with vodka or tequila. Rumours also abound in db towers that you can make a Halloween punch with Limoncello and blue Curaçao to make a bright yellowy-green monster…
The Zombie
Bacardi has created a special cocktail for Halloween called ‘The Zombie’ which is definitely worth a try. Mix 1 oz Bacardi superior rum, three-quarters oz of black rum, half an oz on triple sec, 1 oz of orange juice, half oz of lime juice, and half oz of simple syrup and quarter oz of grenadine. Pour into a shaker and shake with ice, strain into a highball glass and fill with ice and stir. Garnish with cherry and an orange slice.
