Graham’s launches 2018 Late Bottled Vintage Port

Leading Port producer Symington Family Estates has announced the release of Graham’s 2018 Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) Port, which has a redesigned label and also comes in a lighter bottle.

The 2018 vintage was challenging year in the Douro, with winter drought, heavy rain in spring and a summer heatwave presenting challenges. However, cooler weather during the harvest resulted in wines with balance and good acidity. Though yields were low, the quality was well-regarded.

After five years in large oak vats in Graham’s Port Lodge in Porto, the wine was bottled. Tasting notes include: blackberry, blackcurrant, black plum, dried mint leaf, eucalyptus, liquorice, cocoa and white pepper.

While the fortified wine within is in the classic Graham’s LBV style, the packaging has been revamped.

The new bottle is 18% lighter than previous Graham’s LBV bottles, weighing 450 grams. The house previously launched its Six Grapes Reserve Ruby Port in the same, lighter bottle in a bid to reduce carbon emissions from shipping.

The classic bin-shaped LBV label has also been changed, drawing inspiration from the marbled design of the tube the bottle comes in. The tubes themselves, available in Graham’s green, burnt orange, and aubergine, have also been slightly altered, with the metal base swapped for a cardboard one in order to facilitate recycling.

Vicky Symington, Graham’s Port brand manager, commented: “In the last few years since the introduction of the colourful, handcrafted LBV tubes, we have seen an increase in visibility, excitement, and sales of our Graham’s LBV. We have been working on taking this to the next level with the introduction of this new bottle. With its rounded shoulders and elegant tapered body, together with the enhanced label and capsule, this new presentation celebrates the beauty of the wine and links it to the rest of the Graham’s portfolio.”

Graham’s recently became the official drinks partner of Adidas’ Home of Padel tour.

To mark the 650th anniversary of the Anglo-Portuguese Alliance, the oldest such alliance still in existence, the house also released a limited-edition Port.
