Domaine Roy & Fils was established in 2012 by Marc-André Roy and winemaker Jared Etzel. Their fathers, Robert Roy and Michael Etzel, established Willamette Valley’s Beaux Frères Winery in 1991.
At present, Domaine Roy & Films has two vineyards with a total of approximately 16 hectares under vine, the vast majority of which is devoted to the organic cultivation of Pinot Noir with a small parcel of Chardonnay.
Marchesi Frescobaldi president Lamberto Frescobaldi said that it was the quality of Oregon Pinot Noir that encouraged the company to buy a stake in the US wine industry: “At this stage of our expansion, we decided to seize the opportunity to acquire the beautiful Domaine Roy & Fils winery in Oregon, one of the best regions in the world for Pinot Noir. To become part of such a community is a dream come true. On behalf of the Frescobaldi Family I would like to thank Marc-André Roy for offering us the opportunity in Oregon to continue to do what we do best, cultivate beautiful vineyards, produce wines and offer our customers iconic products.”
Domaine Roy & Fils’ 2021 Iron Filbert Vineyard Pinot Noir and Quartz Acorn Vineyard Pinot Noir both have cellar door prices of US$126 each.
Winery co-founder and president Marc–André Roy said: “We are humbled and thrilled to welcome the Frescobaldi family as the new owners of Domaine Roy & Fils. Their esteemed winemaking heritage and commitment to excellence align perfectly with our own values. We believe this partnership will preserve and elevate the legacy of Domaine Roy & Fils.”
Marchesi Frescobaldi has signed the purchase agreement. The transaction, involving an undisclosed sum, is expected to close by the end of this month – it was initiated by International Wine Associates.
Marc-André Roy will jointly lead the winery alongside Frescobaldi.
Oregon Live reports that Frescobaldi will be investing in new winery equipment and that winemaker Nicolo D’Afflitto, who oversees the production of Frescobaldi’s estates, will be “working closely” with Etzel.
Earlier this year, Frescobaldi also extended its footprint in Maremma with the acquisition of Poggio Verano.
