Baron de Rothschild Champagne’s ‘Rare Collection’ launches in China

Chinese fine wine importer ASC partnered with Barons de Rothschild Champagne to host an exclusive China launch of its 2012 vintage wines.

Baron de Rothschild Champagne joined forces with ASC Fine Wines to launch its 2012 vintage wines at two events held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Shanghai on 29 June and in Shenzhen on 30 June.

Frédéric Mairesse, managing director of Barons de Rothschild Champagne and Makoto Nagae, CEO of ASC Fine Wines, attended the launches, which were held to celebrate the “exceptional” wines of the 2012 vintage, grouped under the Rare Collection banner.

These sought-after Champagnes, highly regarded by collectors, are exclusively made from Chardonnay harvested from four grand crus in the Côte des Blancs. The Champagnes are aged for a minimum of eight years and allowed to rest for an additional year after disgorgement before release.

“We are thrilled to partner with Barons de Rothschild Champagne in bringing the exceptional vintage 2012 Rare Collection to China,” said Nagae.

“The Rare Collection represents the epitome of elegance and craftsmanship, embodying the shared values of ASC and the Rothschild Family. We are proud to present these remarkable Champagnes, which will undoubtedly captivate collectors and wine enthusiasts across the country, allowing us to ‘connect people and inspire delightful moments with wine’ as our corporate mission statement guides us.”

The Rare Collection is now available in a new Magnum format, which allows for optimal ageing, resulting in wines suitable for long-term cellaring.

Furthermore. the collection’s first rosé Champagne was unveiled, a Blanc de Blancs Rosé showcasing the pure expression of Chardonnay, accompanied by a third wine, a red expression specially produced in a dedicated vat room.

“The 2012 vintage of our Rare Collection Blanc de Blancs and Rosé represents the pinnacle of our vision for the Champagne region,” said Frédéric Mairesse.

“These fine and complex Grand Vins perfectly embody the spirit of excellence for which the Rothschild Family is renowned in France and around the world.”

Every detail, from the paper to the bottle markings featuring the famous arrows and engraved bottle, pays homage to the artistry of Baron de Rothschild. The presentation box, made of solid walnut sourced from European forests, is designed to become a collector’s item with a tree planted for every box produced.

Founded in 2005, Barons de Rothschild Champagne represents a historic collaboration among the three branches of the Rothschild Family: Baron Philippe Sereys de Rothschild (Château Mouton Rothschild), Baron Benjamin and his wife Ariane (Château Clarke – Groupe Edmond de Rothschild), and Baron Eric and his daughter Saskia (Château Lafite Rothschild).

The China launch of the 2012 vintage Rare Collection marks a significant milestone for ASC Fine Wines, Barons de Rothschild Champagne, and the Chinese wine market.
