Northern Monk releases trio of beers inspired by the UK’s favourite pub snacks
If you like chomping on a packet of pork scratchings or a pile of peanuts with a pint in hand, then why not combine the two? Northern Monk has done just that with three new beers inspired by our favourite pub snacks.
Independent brewery Northern Monk’s latest releases were initially announced as an April Fools prank. But pork scratching-flavoured beer is no joke.
A trio of beers have been launched as part of a Faith in Boozers campaign, including a Scampi & Lemon Pale Ale, inspired by the iconic scampi fries; a Pork Scratching Best Bitter; and a Dry Roasted Peanut Stout.
Russell Bisset, co-founder of Northern Monk, said of the new launch: “The ultimate pub snack is one of our favourite topics around the brewery; we even ran a tournament on our Instagram to see what other people think and try and settle the debate – pretzel pieces won. Brian Dickson, our Technical Director and Co-Founder, decided we should try and replicate some of our favourites in a beer.
The trio are going into cask and kegs in 22 pubs across the country. Profits will be passed onto the bars themselves, as Northern Monk created the campaign to benefit pubs and bars struggling with rising costs.
Bisset explained: “Pubs, and breweries, have had a really tough few years with the pandemic, navigating guidelines, rising costs and changes in consumer habits, but there’s a real love for the pub and all profits from the beers will be passed to them. We hope people will be curious to try the beers, head to a local with them on and give them a go – maybe with a bag of the snacks themselves alongside.”
