Oltrenero partners with Venini for Milan Design Week
Lombard sparkling producer Oltrenero, part of the Zonin1821 portfolio, has partnered with master glassmaker Venini for Milan Design Week, taking place until this Sunday.
102-year-old glassmaker Venini is described in a press release from Oltrenero as “a veritable institution in the art and design sector”.
The partnership entails Oltrenero Cruasé, a classic method sparkling rosé made from Pinot Nero, being served in Venini-manufactured sparkling wine glasses at Venini’s boutique in Milan’s Via Montenapoleone, and at its stands at Salone Internazionale del Mobile, over the course of Milan Design Week.
The release describes the partnership as a “pairing” that expresses the “Made in Italy brand”.
Oltrenero hails from the area of Oltrepò Pavese, in Pavia, western Lombardy. Meaning ‘beyond the dark’, the name is a reference to the Pinot Nero grapes that are used for this traditional method sparkling. Its Cruasé, an Oltrepo’ Pavese Metodo Classico DOCG, is so-named in reference to the French term for selection in wine, ‘cru’.
In addition to the special wine glasses which the Cruasé is being served in this week, Venin also produces decor items such as lamps and vases. Venini creations are showcased in, to name but a few: the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Centre Georges-Pompidou in Paris, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The company also has its own museum on the island of Murano, in the Venetian Lagoon, which has a long history of glassmaking.
Milan Design Week takes place across the Lombard city every April and showcases the best of Italian design, with a particular emphasis on furniture and furnishings.
At this year’s Vinitaly, Zonin1821 Group spoke with the drinks business about its new Zìnzula Bianco, the new white wine from its Pugliese Masseria Altemura brand.
