Zonin1821 Group unveils Zìnzula Bianco
At Vinitaly, Zonin1821 Group presented a new white wine from its Pugliese Masseria Altemura brand.
“When I’m talking about wine, I feel like they are my babies,” joked Zonin1821 Group wine educator Gabriele Rappo when speaking with db.
This particular baby is the younger sibling in the current Zìnzula range, so named as a reference to Puglia’s Zinzulusa caves. Several years ago, the group unveiled a 100% Negroamaro rosé.
This white expression, also packaged in the same sleek bottle and sealed under Vinolok, “arose from the idea of successfully embracing two of Puglia’s age-old traditional white grape varieties: Fiano and Moscato,” according to Zonin1821 Group vice president Michele Zonin.
Fiano makes up 92% of the final blend, but, Zonin said: “It is actually the Moscato that yields aromatic notes to the wines, further enhancing the fragrance and crisp freshness of Fiano. The latter’s floral notes and hints of Mediterranean scrub are also heighted and sweetened by the typical aromas of Moscato.”
It is certainly a wine that surprises, offering intense citrus aromas and a bracing acidity that is normally uncharacteristic of such a hot climate. Zonin attributed its freshness to the high limestone content of Masseria Altemura’s soil.
Just as the product itself is firmly rooted in Puglia, so too is Rappo’s pairing suggestion: “You are in Bari, you are by the seaside, you feel the sea breeze: you want oysters and raw fish, just with a drop of olive oil – the acidity washes it away.”
The new wine is not the only change to be announced by the group at Vinitaly. As the drinks business previously reported, Zonin1821 also unveiled its new packaging design for its for its Zonin and Masseria Altemura brands.
