Santa Margherita Wine Group sales pass €260 million
Santa Margherita Wine Group, which oversees ten estates across Italy, has announced that last fiscal year it saw double-figure sales growth.
The group, owned by the Marzotto family, oversees brands including Santa Margherita, Torresella, Kettmeir, Ca’ del Bosco, Cà Maiol, Lamole di Lamole, Vistarenni, Sassoregale, Terrelíade and Cantina Mesa.
It closed its accounts last fiscal year with a turnover of €260.4m, an 18% increase on the record result of 2021. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) were up to €90.2m, a 14% increase on 2021’s figure.
The group’s export share also grew, now standing at 73%, as opposed to 68% for 2021. The top export markets were the US (growing in value by 22% compared to 2021), Canada (30% increase) and Germany (up 2.1%). The growth in value of the Swiss market was also notable, increasing by 26.2%. Overall, 28.4 million bottles were sold, equating to 77,000 a day, across 90 countries.
Stefano Marzotto, CEO of the Santa Margherita Wine Group, said: “Our growth in these last few years, which is even more remarkable because it has taken place in very complicated times, highlights the justness of our investment policy over the last fifteen years: more than €380m – of which €29.3m just in 2022 – have been destined for the purchase of land for viticulture, to the implementation of new technology in the vineyard and in the winery (among many examples, plants for the production of green energy, with a view to making our production processes increasingly sustainable), to human resources, and to the development of services and buildings for hospitality at our estates.”
“In 2023,” Marzotto concluded, “we will destine a further €25.2m to the agricultural side of our operations and to the constant upgrading of the technological plant in the Group’s wineries, which continue to represent the state of the art for our sector.”
Last year, Santa Margherita’s Prosecco Superiore DOCG celebrated its 70th anniversary.
