The brand has recorded growth which doubles that of the second fastest growing soft drinks brand with over £500,000 in sales in 2022.

The source of the data was Nielsen IQ Soft Drinks Total Market Value Sales MAT for the 52 weeks ending on 12 February 2023, which looked at brands with £500k+ value sales in 2022.

Founder Olivia Ferdi described the year’s achievements as “a special milestone for us, showing how far Trip have come in our mission to destigmatise conversations about mental wellbeing and rework misconceptions about CBD, helping millions prioritise their health”.

According to data by KAM Media, one in two Gen Z drinkers have now tried a CBD drink. The generation are also the most likely to be teetotal, meaning they are often looking for alternatives to alcohol.

Trip announced a partnership with distributor and manufacturer C&C Group in November 2022, in a bid to grow the offering of CBD drinks in the UK market with a particular focus on the on-trade.

According to a study by the Association for The Cannabinoid Industry, the value of the UK CBD market was estimated at £690 million in 2021, and is expected to grow to £1 billion by 2025.

Retail stockists include Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Boots, Ocado and Holland & Barrett.

The global cannabis drinks market is set to grow by a value of $8.3 billion in 2032, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 37.3%, according to Future Market Insights.

Other international markets are proving harder to crack for CBD products. A ban may even be on the cards in Hong Kong, as the government adopts a “zero-tolerance” policy to cannabis. Hong Kong authorities proposed banning CBD products within the year, with the Security Bureau submitting a paper to this effect to the Legislative Council in June. Read more on that here.
