Casa Cosme Palacio opens to international guests

After opening to Spanish visitors last year, the guesthouse of one of Rioja Alavesa’s most prestigious wineries is now available for overseas tourists to stay in – but only if they are invited to do so.

The luxurious accommodation, situated in an almost 130-year-old building, is located close to the medieval town of Laguardia.

Completed last year after seven years of renovation, architect Gregorio Marañón, landscape gardener María Medina and interior designer Cristina Arechabala have created a vacation stay like no other.

In addition to having 4,000 square metres of space, 13 bedrooms (of which four are suites), and a swimming pool among the vines that overlooks the Ebro Valley, there is also a butler on call 24-hours a day.

Gonzalo Entrecanales, CEO of Entrecanales Domecq e Hijos, the group of which Cosme Palacio is part, said: “Our aim is to offer
our guests a unique and very exclusive experience that is integrated into the local setting. This project contributes to ensuring that guests get an immersive experience in everything that the Rioja Alavesa and its surroundings have to offer: wine, food, culture and countryside.”

As part of Cosme Palacio’s commitment to the growth of its wine tourism offering, it has also hired Ignacio Oñate Urizar as hotel director for La Casa, who has extensive experience of hotels in Rioja. On this new guesthouse, he said: “Staying at Casa Cosme is an experience in itself and the perfect retreat for unwinding from everyday stress, where you can enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the vineyards, wild flowers and foods from our vegetable gardens. If full disconnection is what you need then massages, yoga and mindfulness sessions are all available. And for those looking for the ultimate in corporate entertainment, we offer a full range of activities, from an exclusive tasting with Master of Wine Almudena Alberca, an opera performance in our barrel cellar, to day trips in a 4×4 or even a helicopter ride to our estate winery in Rueda, Caserío de Dueñas.”

Given that this is reportedly Spain’s first ‘by invitation only’ guest house, and can only be booked in its entirety, it has an exclusivity that is hard to match. Those interested in requesting the chance to be invited to stay can do so here.
