Finally, one of life’s big questions has been answered, and the results may come as a surprise.
Qatar has been ranked the most expensive country overall for a beer charging £10.85 on average.
The World Cup host’s capital city Doha is also crowned the most expensive World Cup beer capital, costing a staggering £11.21 for a single beer, almost double London’s average cost of £6. Doha’s average price of a pint is £4 more than any other qualifying capital city analysed, with Washington DC coming in second, charging £6.58.
Speaking of London, while the Big Smoke was one of the more expensive capital cities, coming in fourth under Zurich and Washington DC. But England as a whole wasn’t too shabby, ranking ninth in the list of 10 World Cup countries with the most expensive pints.
Although not listed in the top 10, Lisbon, Portugal is Europe’s cheapest city for a pint at £1.76. Portugal is also the cheapest country overall in Europe for a beer costing an average of £1.73, the new research from Betting.com found.
Accra, Ghana is the cheapest qualifying World Cup capital city for a pint charing just £0.86, followed close behind by Cameroon, Tunisia and Brazil.
