Dogfish Head and TALEA make beer that represents NYC culture

Dogfish Head Craft Brewery has unveiled a new limited-edition collaboration sour craft beer with TALEA Beer Co.

The beer, which is a 5% ABV sour ale named Bodegose, is made with adjuncts such as cherries and pink peppercorns, but will showcase adaptations at each of the breweries to give each brew a sense of place.

For instance, Dogfish Head’s version of Bodegose also contains guava, while TALEA is set to launch its version brewed with additional mango.

Dogfish Head founder and brewer, Sam Calagione said: “I’ve had a blast working side-by-side with the team at TALEA and Dogfish brewing manager, Bryan Selders, to bring Bodegose to life. I homebrewed my first beer ever with overly ripe cherries that I purchased from a bodega in Manhattan, so this was a full-circle moment for me. I’m even more excited to bring a taste of our off-centred experience in New York City to coastal Delaware.”

To celebrate the release, Dogfish Head is also set to host a New York City-bodega-inspired launch party at its Rehoboth campus from 11am-2pm on 22 October.

Beer fans are encouraged to stop by the Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats courtyard to enjoy the pop-up, hot dogs and live music.

The purchase of a Bodegose four-pack will also include a free hot dog, as well as a Bodegose-inspired sticker and postcard.

In Brooklyn, TALEA also plans to celebrate the beer’s release at its Williamsburg taproom with a fun run on 21 October.

Dogfish Head’s version of Bodegose will be available in four packs containing 16oz cans to-go at the brewery and on draft at the Rehoboth brewpub, for on-site consumption, retailing at US$16 per four-pack.

Tara Hankinson and LeAnn Darland, the founders of TALEA added: “Collaborating with Sam and his team is an honour. We’ve long admired Dogfish Head for their innovation and storytelling. It was a dream come true to work together on this project to create a sour beer that represents both the culture of New York City through the lens of bodegas and that fulfills our mission to brew easy-to-love beers.”
