Cloudwater, Dugges, Burial and Bellwoods join Origin of Darkness
Collective Arts Brewing has revealed this year’s edition of its Origin of Darkness series of limited edition barrel-aged stouts.
For the 2022 series, Collective Arts collaborated with partner breweries from around the world to create a quartet of beers that all weighed in at 10.8% ABV and showcased each brewer’s take on a barrel-aged stout.
The beers released are as follows:
Cloudwater Brewing of Manchester, England – Port Barrel Aged Imperial Stout with Vidal Ice Wine. This stout has been re-fermented with ice wine juice and must, and finished in Port barrels. It has flavours of sweet wine, Port spice, cinnamon, honey and peach with a light roasty body owing to its complex malt bill of barley, wheat and oats.
Dugges of Gothenburg, Sweden – Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout with Raspberry, Chocolate & Mint. This stout, brewed with dark chocolate and raspberries with peppermint in the background has a large body with sweet notes of fudge, vanilla and Bourbon.
Burial Beer Co of Asheville, North Carolina – Madeira Whiskey Barrel Aged Imperial Stout with Pecans & Coffee. This pastry stout was aged in Madeira whiskey barrels from Blackened Whiskey and contains the nutty aromas of pecans and rye spice with notes of American whiskey, coffee and toffee.
Bellwoods Brewery of Toronto, Ontario – Wheated Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout with Dulce De Leche. This stout offers up lots of caramel, vanilla and notes of wheated Bourbon and is rich in texture and flavour.
All four variants of Origin of Darkness 2022 feature can artwork by Jordy García, aka BLUMOO, and are available now at both Collective Arts retail stores and the brewery’s online shop.
Each beer will retail at US$5.95 per 12fl oz can.
