BII encourages responsible alcohol retailing
This week is the first BII Responsible Retailing Week, culminating in a pub tour on the 10th of August to demonstrate the diversity that pubs are able to offer, as well as to highlight responsible alcohol retailing.
The BII is the professional body for the licensed retail sector. Chief executive John McNamara (who will be driving the double-decker bus for the tour), explained that the tour would "show how some of the best pubs are run". McNamara also said that the BII "have believed in social responsibility through business professionalism" for the 25 years since the body was founded.
The tour will take place in Fulham and Putney, visiting a gastro pub, a community pub, an after-work pub, and ending at a music venue. Guests will include government officials, local authorities, police and press.
Another purpose of the week is to highlight the last ten months since the licensing act changes in the UK. The BII launched its responsible alcohol retailing campaign at the same time, with the intention of raising public awareness. "We have over 17,500 members across the country operating in a socially responsible manner and contributing positively to their local communities," said McNamara.
