Greene King system failure causes no card payments issue
Carrying cash became paramount for beer lovers this week after Greene King temporarily stopped being able to accept card payments.
The issue, which saw the brewer and pub company’s IT system going down for ‘a brief period’ led to the business being unable to take credit or debit cards for sales of meals or drinks in the pubs across its estate until the matter was resolved, sparking panic among the cashless in desperate need of a pint.
Speaking to db, a Greene King spokesperson said: “For a brief period on Tuesday afternoon we were only able to take cash payments in our pubs, as an issue with our network provider prevented us from taking card payments.”
The spokesperson added: “We understand we were not the only organisation impacted and the issue was resolved by 4pm. We would like to apologise to any customers who were inconvenienced and have asked our provider to investigate what happened and provide us with a full update.”
Pub goers, while out enjoying the heatwave this week, are urged to take precautionary measures when visiting pubs for refreshment and always carry cash – just in case.
