Delle Venezie DOC celebrates summer season of events in the UK
Italy’s largest DOC will be represented in London once again this summer, kicking off with a Pinot Grigio masterclass from db editor-in-chief Patrick Schmitt MW at London Wine Fair today.
The masterclass will explore nine different labels of Pinot Grigio at Olympia London in the Walk Up Tasting Zone. This evening there will also be a Republic Day celebration organised by the Italian Embassy in London where Pinot Grigio delle Venezie DOC will be served.
Beyond London Wine Fair, promotion will continue at Taste London (15-19 June) in Regent’s Park. There, an innovative wine truck (branded from a classic Italian Ape van) will take visitors on a journey to discover “Pinot Grigio delle Venezie, The Seal of Wonderful Experiences”. The truck will also be sharing space with PromoTurismo Friuli Venezia Giulia, which will provide information on visiting the region.
Nazareno Vicenzi, oenologist and technician at the Delle Venezie DOC Wine Consortium, says: “The United Kingdom is the second largest market for the DO delle Venezie, accounting for about 27% of total exports. Here, Pinot Grigio is the best known and best loved still white wine”.
Vicenzi goes on to say that: “UK consumers have always associated it with the Italian winemaking tradition and, above all, lifestyle, frequently preferring it on food and social occasions. But this is no longer enough: our task..is to make British consumers, precisely through these appointments with the public, more familiar with the values of certification, safety, control and high quality that pertain to the variety”.
To locate the Walk Up Tasting Zone for today’s masterclass, please ask the nearest steward for directions.
