Austrian Wine celebrates record export growth
Austrian Wine has revealed that 2021 saw export revenue rise by a record amount, with the increase primarily driven by the country’s Qualitätswein white wine.
Austrian wine is toasting what it has described as “the greatest export growth” in its history. According to figures provided by the body, revenue rose by €29.5 million to €216.8 million (+15.7%) in 2021. This represents the greatest growth in export revenue value in history.
Exports rose 3.8% to 70.2 million litres, with the growth driven mainly by Austria’s white Qualitätswein.
Growth was particularly strong in export markets outside the EU including USA, Canada and China, though Austrian Wine did also enjoy growth in European countries.
We previously reported that Austria’s 2021 harvest has shown great promise, with notably high quality compared to previous good vintages.
Austrian Wine told db that from Wachau to Carnuntum and from the Weinviertel to the Thermenregion, white wines have proved consistently rich in extracts and bitingly fresh. You can read more about the 2021 harvest here.
