Top 10 celebrity Tequila brands
Any celebrity worth their salt (and lemon) should have their own Tequila brand. They have become as ubiquitous a status symbol as fast cars and expensive divorces, but it’s an increasingly competitive field, so here’s a run down of ten big names getting involved in the Mexican spirit game.
1) Dwayne Johnson – Teremana

Can you smell what The Rock is distilling? Well, the answer is small-batch tequila made from blue agave at the Teremana facility in Jalisco. Johnson has already conquered the wrestling ring, the silver screen, and now he’s heading for your drinks cabinet. Distributed by Mast-Jägermeister, Teremena has become part of the muscular man’s charm offensive on the world, as he regularly shares shots of him enjoying the spirit to his 309 million Instagram followers. They might need to grow more agave to keep up with the demand.
2) Michael Jordan – Cincoro

Five prominent NBA figures walk into a bar, or was it a restaurant, and decide to launch their own Tequila brand. All jokes aside, Cincoro has become a force to be reckoned with in the premium Tequila market in the US. A bottle of their three-year aged extra añejo retails for $1,600, which is the price to pay for a bottle from a company partly-owned by the star of Space Jam (1996). The Bulls legend became the first billionaire NBA player in history around the time that Cincoro was launched, so the gold theme makes sense.
3) Kendall Jenner – 818 Tequila
Kendall Jenner’s foray into Tequila has not plain sailing. The model and “personality” was accused of copyright infringement earlier this year. The branding-similarities between her 818 Tequila and rival 512 Tequila have sparked a war of words, with 512 CEO Nick Mazorkis describing Jenner’s Tequila as a “half a**” effort. Perhaps Jenner could have calmed things down by handing Mazorkis a Pepsi.
4) George Clooney – Casamigos
Few have left a lasting impression in the realm of Tequila quite like the Cloonster himself. Casamigos is a portmanteau of the Spanish words for “house” and “friends” – though this paints a slightly cosier image of the brand than the reality that it has been owned by Diageo since 2017, with the sale estimated to be in the region of $1 billion. Such a price tag may seem like a daylight robbery befitting the man who played Danny Ocean, but on brand recognition alone the sale of Casamigos was worth it.
5) Rita Ora – Próspero
Rita Ora, whose name loosely translates to “pray, Rita” in Spanish, has blessed us with Próspero Tequila. Stella Anguiano, one of Mexico’s pioneering female distillers, designed the spirit available in blanco, reposado and añejo variations. Ora is the Chief Creative Partner of Próspero, a brand which claims to embody “the power of the female spirit”.
6) Guy Fieri – Santo

The Mayor of Flavortown himself, the bleached blond champion of independent diners, drive-ins and dives, Guy Fieri having his own Tequila brand just makes sense. Alongside Sammy “The Red Rocker” Hagar, who looks like a long-lost Fieri cousin, he launched Santo. It’s fittingly punchy for a man whose high-octane cookery continues to shock and delight.
7) Justin Timberlake – Sauza 901
The singer who promised to “rock your body” has certainly rocked a few palates since 2009 when he launched his 901 Tequila, 901 being the area code for Timberlake’s hometown of Memphis. Though Tennessee is more often associated with Jack Daniel’s whiskey than Tequila, 901 has found its audience. In 2014 Beam invested in the company, renaming it Sauza 901. It is so smooth that it can supposedly be enjoyed neat and with nothing to chase.
8) Arnold Schwarzenegger – Lobos 1707
Arnie wants the Lobos 1707 brand to terminate the competition. Well, he actually said that he wanted it to become the Tequila choice “for consumers”, but that’s difficult to make a pun with. Alongside fellow investor Lebron James, Schwarzenegger, who filmed Total Recall (1990) in Mexico, takes pride in the authenticity of the brand which he invested in in 2020. It was when filming Total Recall that the actor picked up a tip that isn’t for the faint-hearted: dipping your cigar into Tequila and then lighting it up.
9) Nick Jonas – Villa One

One third of the Jonas Brothers, Nick has done what a man gotta do and co-founded his own Tequila brand: Villa One. Made from 100% blue weber agave from Jalisco, because that’s just the way he rolls. Distilled by master blender Arturo Fuentes, the rounded profile and smooth finish should mean that you won’t be burnin’ up after a shot.
10) Elon Musk – Tesla Tequila
The world’s richest man has a reputation for poor jokes, and his “Teslaquila” follows that trend. It began as an April Fool’s post on Twitter, but when he tried to trademark a Tesla-branded Tequila with that name he fell foul of the spirit’s protected status. Instead, he chose the alliterative Tesla Tequila. Aged for 15-months in French oak and produced from sustainably sourced agave, the bulk of the $2,000 cost seems to come from the hand-blown lightning bolt-shaped bottle. It seems to be a rare instance for Tesla where build quality won’t be an issue.
