Julie Iverson was born in Denmark in 1914, served in Kenya in the Women’s Royal Naval Service in World War Two and has three daughters and five grandchildren, the BBC reports.

She celebrated the milestone birthday with a party at Brampton Lodge care home in Warrington, where carers described her as a “lovely and kind person”.

The staff revealed that Mrs Iverson will always know right away if her favoured red wine has been watered down – a daily glass of which she credits among the secrets of her long life.

She received countless greetings cards and well wishes after care home manager Debbie Davidson posted a message about Mrs Iverson’s milestone birthday to Facebook. “She loves her birthday cards from the Queen and always comments on how nicely dressed she is on the card,” Mrs Davidson said.

Mrs Iverson’s daughter Roselyn Barclay said she was “great supportive mum” with a love of singing and a positive outlook on life.

“Today Brampton Lodge celebrated a very special occasion… happy 108th birthday to our lovely Julia, we hope you enjoyed your day celebrating with family and staff, we also had a special visit from the deputy mayor of Warrington. Happy birthday from everyone at Brampton Lodge you sure are a very special lady,” a post on Brampton Lodge care home reads.

Mrs Iverson has twice tested positive for Covid, making a recovery both times after mild symptoms. She has also lived through the Spanish flu pandemic, which took place in 1918.
