Urgent recall of Shiraz over fears bottles contain shards of glass

A popular brand of Australian Shiraz has been pulled from stores nationwide over fears that the bottles could contain shards of glass due to a packaging fault.

The Food Standards Authority Australia issued an urgent recall Tuesday for Zilzie Wines’ Meraki Shiraz 2020 vintage (750ml), several Australian news outlets have reported.

“The recall is due to the presence of foreign matter (glass) from a packaging fault,” the food authority revealed in a statement.

“Food products containing glass may cause injury if consumed.”

The wine had been available for purchase from Liqor Stax outlets across Australia, in NSW, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia. The relevant date marking lot number is L20259, according to reports.

Consumers have been urged not to drink the wine and instead return the bottle to the place of purchase for a full refund.
