Castelnau Wine Agencies celebrates 40th anniversary
Castelnau Wine Agencies, the UK subsidiary of parent company Champagne Castelnau, marked its 40th anniversary by adding new wines to its portfolio.
On 27 April, Keith Isaac MW, general manager of Castelnau Wine Agencies, hosted a masterclass and tasted through a selection of new wines from the company’s 2021 portfolio with guest appearances from each of the winemakers.
Highlights included a Picpoul de Pinet from Gilles Cantons, Gavi di Gavi from Scrimaglio, Shiraz from Wicks Estate in the Adelaide Hills and Crozes Hermitage from Domaine Mucyn a family winery based in the northern Rhône who are in the process of converting to organic.
Isaac said of the milestone: “While we are known for Champagnes and Burgundy, we realise not everyone knows the breadth and depth of our portfolio.
“Our 40th anniversary felt like the perfect opportunity to showcase the diversity of wines that we import and we were determined not to let our current restrictions get in the way of that.
“What stands out in my notes, and those of my buying colleague Kate Roseveare, is the vibrant fruit in each wine and the typicity of grape and place.
“The wines we showcased go a long way to express our ability to fulfil the needs of a variety of trade channels and price points.”
Castelnau Wine Agencies has been importing wines and supplying the UK trade since 1981, with Isaac at the helm since 1996.
Owned by Champagne Castelnau in Reims, the Castelnau Wine Agencies portfolio has grown year on year and now represents 42 wineries from around the world.
With a particular focus on the environmental impact of the wineries they work with, 75% of CWA’s portfolio is working towards or already certified as sustainable and nine wineries are certified or working towards being organic.
