This is the third year in a row that brewery worker Del Hall has lived on a diet of just water, coffee, tea and beer for lent, and the local celebrity told Fox19 that he was delighted with the results.

“I was looking forward to the weight loss, I was looking forward to how my body felt and I was looking forward to raising some money,” Hall told the news channel with just two days of lent remaining. “And all those things came to fruition so I’m extremely happy with how this year turned out.”

The fundraising Hall referred to comes in the form of a gofundme page he has set up to benefit local hospitality workers as a result of his beer-only feat of endurance. So far the page has raised more than US$12,000.

“If I can walk into 43 bars and restaurants and I can put $500 additional dollars into their tip jars, that’s a big win,” he said.

Bar and restaurant staff have, of course, been heavily impacted by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

As for for the weight loss? Hall posted a side-by-side picture of his before and after transformation to Instagram, and the difference is remarkable. Take a look for yourself:

According to Fox19, with two days left of the challenge Hall had consumed 230 beers, drinking between three and five per day.

Of course, this is where we must point out that consuming nothing but beer for lent is not necessarily an appropriate weight loss regime, and you should consult your doctor if you’re considering any major changes to your regular diet.

Even so, congratulations, Del! What an incredible effort.

We wrote about Del Hall’s journey right at the start of lent. You can read about how it all started here.
