Dentists are warning the public of the health dangers of opening beer bottles with your teeth, after a video of singer Madison Beer doing exactly that went viral.

Though it might seem obvious to some, dentists are warning people not to use their teeth to open things like beer bottles, due to the very real risks of chipping, breaking or fracturing your teeth.

The original video of Madison Beer cracking open a bottle of beer with her teeth was uploaded to TikTok by YouTuber David Dobrik, and was captioned “that’s why her last name is beer!!”.

However, dismayed dentists have since taken to the video sharing platform to urge people not to follow suit.

TikTok user Doctor Tristan Peh, who is a dentist in Singapore, shared the video along with the following advice:

“Do not use your teeth as tools!

“Using your teeth as a bottle opener can cause chipping, breaking or fracture of your teeth.

“Please don’t do it!”

Indeed, on its blog, Rocky Ridge Dental warns of the potential dangers of using your teeth thus.

“Opening bottles with your teeth might be a great party trick, but it’s probably not one that your dentist will thank you for.” The blog reads.

“One of the leading causes of broken or chipped teeth comes from people using their teeth for things they are just not intended to do.

“It only takes one unfortunate slip or a tricky bottle to lead to a dental emergency.

If you have been opening bottles with your teeth for a while without any noticeable damage to your teeth, you might be thinking this is a harmless habit. Over time though, putting this kind of pressure and strain on your teeth causes damage that you may not be able to see.”

If that’s not a good enough reason to invest in a decent bottle opener, I don’t know what is.

Meanwhile, a New York City man has bottled an Emotional Support Beer you can actually buy.
