‘Beer Yoga’ is the trend sweeping the married passions of beer and fitness
If you’ve ever wondered whether your love of beer could be somehow fused with fitness, then Beer Yoga – the fitness trend sweeping the globe – might just be the pastime for you.
The age old dilemma of summers past and present: to drink or to workout, might finally be consigned to annals of history – and it’s all thanks to the exciting fusion of two seemingly disparate concepts: beer and yoga.
Yes, although it might appear at first glance to be a marriage of pure convenience ‘beer yoga’ is set to sweep the globe as drinkers get flexible and embrace the art of yoga.
Derived from the original BierYoga exercise class, the trend has been steadily reaching more and more people since its inception in 2015.
A description of the concept translated to English on BierYoga’s website reads:
“BeerYoga is the marriage of two great loves – beer and yoga. Both are centuries-old therapies for body, mind and soul. The joy of drinking beer and the mindfulness of yoga compliment each other, and make for an energizing experience.”
Yoga teacher Jhula got the idea for the popular practise after visiting Nevada’s annual Burning Man festival in the United States.
BierYoga can be found at bars, festivals, birthday parties and, of course, in the great outdoors. The website says that its open outdoor sessions will recommence once the weather warms up.
Meanwhile, a Virginia-based brewery is aiming to have its Carolina Reaper beer officially certified as the world’s hottest. You can read more here.
