10 pink Proseccos to try this Christmas

After a change in regulation last month, rosé Prosecco has finally been approved as an export by the EU, as long as producers adhere to strict regulations. In response, an array of UK retailers, from national supermarkets like Morrisons and Aldi, to luxury department store Harvey Nichols, have brought out their own blushing bubbly in time for Christmas.

Aldi Prosecco Rosé DOC

Early to the pink Prosecco party, with producers granted permission to sell rosé Prosecco outside of Italy for the first time on 2 November, Aldi brought out its Prosecco Rosé DOC on the very same day. According to the retailer it offers “floral aromas on the nose and a palate offering a mix of summer fruits with a hint of strawberry and peach”, and should be served at 6-8 degrees.

I Heart Prosecco Rosé DOC

Not just a first for the I Heart range, the producer says this “fresh, crisp and zesty tipple” is also the first branded rosé Prosecco to land on UK shelves.

La Gioiosa Prosecco Rosé DOC

Villa Sandi’s off-trade brand, this “fresh and zesty” pink Prosecco has, according to the producer, “delicate red fruit flavours like red currants and raspberry, with an extra floral quality”. Light and bright in colour, La Gioiosa’s take on Prosecco rosé makes a perfect pair for raspberry soufflé.

Mionetto Prosecco Rosé DOC

Offered up as the perfect partner to both formal and informal occasions, Mionetto’s Prosecco Rosé DOC – certified to be vegan-friendly – combines, say the producer, “fresh and elegant flavours with a light pink colour inspired by peach flowers”. Chris Baldry, Mionetto’s brand manager at Freixenet Copestick commented on the versatility of the fizz, which is suitable for any occasion “from a summer evening in the garden to an engagement party”. He added: “We look forward to seeing how our loyal customers choose to enjoy theirs”.

Harvey Nichols Prosecco Rosé DOC

Iconic luxury department store Harvey Nichols has just launched its own Prosecco Rosé available to buy online or in store. Another vegan-friendly option, this sparkler was crafted by Antonella and Ersiliana Bronca. The Glera and Pinot Noir grapes are harvested by hand, and give off “a floral and fruity taste with hints of roses and currants” accrording to the store. Andrew Duncan, wine buyer at Harvey Nichols, spoke of his excitement to have it ready for Christmas, “following months of tests and tastings to find the perfect Prosecco rosé to add to our portfolio”.

Bottega Il Vino dei Poeti Prosecco Rosé DOC

This pretty pink from Bottega has just hit UK shelves this month. Made from a blend of Glera and Pinot Noir, the fizz is characterised, says Bottega by its “complex aromas, offering distinct hints of apple, white peach, citrus and wild strawberries, along with floral notes of peach blossom”. It is said to pair well with caprese salad, cured ham and vegetable risottos.

Lidl Prosecco Rosé DOC

Now in stores nationwide, shoppers can pick up a bottle of this hotly anticipated pink drink for just £6.49. According to Lidl the fizz is “not too dry with a gentle fizz”. Lidl’s addition to the plethora of pink Proseccos hitting the UK shelves at the moment has “notes of fruity strawberry”.

Morrisons The Best Rosé Prosecco

Morrisons is another national supermarket to hop on the pink Prosecco bandwagon, with its new Christmas crowdpleaser aptly named The Best Rosé Prosecco. According to the retailer the pink fizz is “packed full of white peach flavours and aromas of wild strawberry.”

Bosco del Merlo Prosecco DOC Brut Rosé

This pale pink Prosecco from Bosco del Merlo is a blend of 85% Glera and 15% Pinot Nero. The grapes are vinified separately to obtain “the perfect balance between the two varieties and preserve the wine’s freshness”, says the producer. According to Bosco, the floral fizz offers aromas of “red fruits and white flowers, and a mouth-watering finish”, and pairs well with fish dishes, like salmon or tuna sashimi and grilled vegetables.

Spar Prosecco Rosé Extra Dry

Spar has teamed up with Italian suppliers Bosco Viticultori, who produce the retailer’s popular blue shield Extra Dry Prosecco, to bring another new Prosecco rosé to the UK. Spar is the first convenience store to provide a pink Prosecco to its shoppers, and with a “fresh and fruity taste” according to the retailer, it is ideal for raising a glass with friends and family over the festive season.
