Campari UK takes on Ancho Reyes and Montelobos
The UK division of drinks group Campari has taken on the distribution for Ancho Reyes chilli liqueur and Montelobos mezcal.
Campari will now distribute all of the brands’ SKUs in the UK market as part of its premium portfolio. These include Ancho Reyes Original and Ancho Reyes Verde, as well as Montelobos Espadin, Ensamble, Tobala and Pechuga.
Ancho Reyes produces its chilli liqueurs using a family recipe that dates to the 1920s. It uses handpicked poblano chillies, which are native to Puebla in Mexico. Montelobos is billed as the first certified mezcal from the city of Puebla and is made by Mexican distiller Iván Saldaña.
It follows news of Campari’s purchase of a 51% stake in Casa Montelobos, the owner of Montelobos and Ancho Reyes, for US$35.7 million in October last year.
Managing director of Campari UK, Brad Madigan, commented: “The acquisition of both Ancho Reyes and Montelobos will further diversify Campari UK’s growing prestige portfolio, with the addition of a unique, award-winning Mexican liqueur and an artisanal mezcal.
“As both distinctive and super-premium brands, Ancho Reyes and Montelobos are a perfect fit, we are thrilled to have them as part of our ever growing prestige portfolio. I would like to thank the team at Mangrove for their commitment in establishing these brands in the UK market, we’re looking forward to further building on their great work.
