M&S launches £5 wine range focused on style
UK retailer Marks & Spencer has launched a new range of 15 wines this week arranged by style, with all but two of them costing just £5 a bottle.
Created by M&S winemaker Belinda Kleinig, the ‘This Is’ range is comprised of 15 supermarket staples with labels that make it easy for consumers to understand exactly what type of wine is in the bottle.
Kleinig devised the range in a bid to make the often daunting task of tackling the supermarket wine aisle a little less intimidating for consumers.
Using label colours indicative of their style, each wine has a two word descriptor, such as ‘crisp and fruity’, ‘vibrant and zesty’, ‘light and refreshing’, and ‘ripe and juicy’.
Among the wines in the range are an Italian Pinot Grigio, South African Chenin Blanc, Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon, Argentine Malbec and Australian Shiraz.
Save for the two sparkling wines from Italy, a non-vintage brut with “floral notes and hints of pear”, and a non-vintage rosé priced at £6, all of the wines cost £5 and hail from the 2019 vintage. The full range will be available in M&S stores this week.
