Rioja Wine Academy launches

The Rioja Regulatory Council has launched the Rioja Wine Academy, a digital bilingual education project offering courses on the region for wine professionals.

The academy is currently offering four courses:a Rioja wine diploma, a diploma in Rioja wine for trade and distribution, a diploma in Rioja wine tourism, and a Rioja wine certified educator course aimed at wine educators and staff trainers.

The online education platform is an expansion of the ‘official Rioja wine educators’ course, which the Rioja Regulatory Council launched in 2016. Since the course’s inception, certificates have been awarded to 100 people from over 20 countries.

The aim with the Rioja Wine Academy is to provide a more comprehensive educational tool for wine professionals working in sales, distribution and wine tourism to give them comprehensive training on the Rioja region and its wines.

“The DOCa Rioja Regulatory Council is taking a step further in its provision of high-level training and is committed to offering anyone wishing to expand their knowledge of Rioja the chance to acquire a thorough understanding to build their confidence.

“They will thus be able to convey the virtues of this wine region with higher standards and in a more concise manner, explaining what distinguishes Rioja from other regions of the world”, said Fernando Salamero, president of the DOCa Rioja Regulatory Council.

The courses, which went live this week, will be taught online via an “intuitive and interactive e-learning platform”. Enrolment for the courses is free.
