Duppy Share launches rum ‘Jeroboam’
Premium rum brand the Duppy Share has launched a ‘Jeroboam’ of rum containing 4.5L of the amber spirit – the equivalent to 6 1/2 regular bottles – which it claims is the largest bottle of rum on the market.
Only 100 giant bottles will be available via the brand’s website, costing a cool £350.
It follows the brand’s launch of a range of draught cocktails – a Jamaican Mule and Golden Mojito – in May this year in Youngs’ sites, the Hope and Anchor, The Ship and the Windmill, as well as Incipio’s bars and pubs.
The company, which was founded by George Frost, the son of TV journalist and personality the late Sir David Frost and Jessica Swinfen in 2014 was launched to plug a gap in the rum category for a more contemporary premium player that could resonate with a new audience. The Duppy Share is a blend of five year old rum from Barbados’s Foursquare Distillery and pot still Jamaican rum from Worthy Park, which is blended in the Netherlands and bottled in the UK.
Frost said it had been a stellar year for independent rum brand, which has seen it launch in France, the Czech Republic, Portugal, Germany, Greece and South Africa.
“We’ve cemented our place in the UK market as drivers of the rum revolution and are now building on this oversees. The Jeroboam is the perfect way to celebrate our success over
the last 12 months and toast to more exciting developments planned for 2020,” he said.
According to the WSTA, sales of rum in the UK market have risen to be worth just over £1 billion in 2018, the equivalent of 35 million bottles, making it a standout performer alongside gin. Sales of white rum dominate the off-trade, but flavoured and spiced rums are on the rise, accounting for almost 10 million bottles in the last year.
