Sotheby’s launches its own wine range

Auction house Sotheby’s has branched out from sales into production with the launch of an own-label wine range, which has gone on sale in the US this week.

The 12-strong range includes eight wines from France, a pair from Italy and two from California, with prices ranging from US$16.95 for its 2018 Prosecco Brut to $39.95 for a Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir made by Matt and Sara Licklider.

Also appearing in the range are a 2017 Saint-Emilion from Anabelle Cruse Bardinet of Château Corbin; a blanc de blancs grand cru Champagne made by Julien Barbier; a 2018 Sancerre from Firmin Dézat; a 2017 Langhe Nebbiolo; and an Haut Médoc 2010.

“For the last year, we have been working closely with some of our favourite producers, with whom we have teamed up to launch this series of wines, all of which are at attractive prices,” said Jamie Ritchie, worldwide head of Sotheby’s Wine.

“The wines are made by producers with whom we have had a long relationship, because we enjoy both the wines and the individual personalities behind them, so naturally many have become good friends.

“Each wine has a lot number that represents the specific wine and producer, giving a strong link to our heritage as an auction house,” he added.

The Sotheby’s range is only available in the US. The auction house has two retail shops, in New York and Hong Kong, and an online business.
