Italian wine bar Bottles to open third site in London
The team behind Bottles in Spitalfields and Bottles & Battles in Elephant & Castle are to open a third site in London, this time in Chelsea.
Following on from the success of their first two sites founders of the Bottles Group, Franco Mancini and Daniele Marano, are heading west to open a third outpost in Chelsea.
Like their existing bars, the wine list will focus on small producers and natural wine with a strong Italian offering, paired with a selection of small plates.
The Chelsea site will also offer fresh juices, light lunches and an Italy-inspired aperitivo menu. While the interiors of both Bottles and Bottles & Battles are industrial chic, the Chelsea site will provide a contrast, with a light, airy, 50-cover space complete with a glass fronted wine bar and a timber wine wall.
A copper-topped bar will contrast with a white and blue tiled dining area, with blue leather accents and copper detailing. The site also boasts a downstairs area with a private dining area and events space.
Wines on the list might include full-bodied Manzoni Bianco white from Maso Furli; La Ca Nova Barbaresco; a Chiavennasca (Nebbiolo) from Lombardy’s Sandro Fay; quirky wines from Hungarian producer Huba Szeremley; and family-owned Champagne Eric Rodez.
The kitchen team will be supervised by Antonio Minuti and Edorado Valeriani who will be serving up Italian tapas-style plates.
Dishes include ‘beccafico’ arancini with wild fennel and seafood; black cold ‘magnum’ with nocellara olives; Sicilian chorizo hot dog, sauerkraut, mint mayo; paccheri, langoustine, Eryngii mushrooms, smoked butter; espresso-glazed ribeye steak; and Viennese brioche, Malvasia creme anglais and candied capers.
The Chelsea venue on Draycott Avenue is to open in early November.
Mancini and Marano launched Bottles & Battles, based in London food market Mercato Metropolitano, in 2016. In 2018, they opened sister site Bottles in Spitalfields Market. Bottles was placed 57th in London’s top restaurants for wine by Wine List Confidential. Read the full review here.
