Alpina Wines opens up its fine wine ‘treasure chamber’

Alpina Wines, the sister company to Alpina Automobiles, is putting up a selection of its fine wines for sale in Geneva this November.

Hosted by Christie’s on 10 November, the sale will feature an array of famous labels and vintages spanning the 1980s and 2000s.

Alpina wines was founded 40 years ago in 1979 by Burkard Bovensiepen who had also founded Alpina Automobile in 1965 – though he’d been producing and supplying car parts to BMW since 1962.

As a distributer and brokerage business, Alpina is one of Germany’s leading fine wine merchants and has been the German agent for the likes of Tenuta San Guido (Sassicaia) and Château Montelena since the 1980s.

It has over one million bottles in stock, 40% of them Bordeaux and 25% Italian, and in sizes from half bottles to imperials.

The sale will feature large consignments of JL Chave and Rostaing wines, Caymus, Monteleana, Super Tuscans and Bordeaux first growths – including two verticals of Château Latour from the ‘80s and ‘90s.

Bovensiepen commented: “For me, wine is a product that has a strong connection with history and culture. And this is the reasoning why wine represents something very special to me.
