Actor Dominic West joins The Wine Show

Actor and director Dominic West has joined the line up on the third series of The Wine Show, presenting alongside Matthew Goode, Matthew Rhys, James Purefoy, Amelia Singer, Jaega Wise and Joe Fattorini.

Joe Fattorini, Dominic West and James Purefoy filming under the famous cedar tree at Quinta do Noval.

In the third series, the team’s headquarters will be Quinta do Noval in the Douro Valley. Previous series have been based the D’Amico wine estate in Italy and a villa in Provence.

Consisting of seven episodes, episodes will feature West, Purefoy and Fattorini treading grapes at Quinta do Noval, and visits to Lisbon to explore the Portuguese origins of one of India’s most famous dishes, and Alentejo to learn more about cork and Vinho Verde.

Fattorini heads to Hungary, Thailand and Germany for a series of wine-focused films. Singer joins him to explore the origins of sparkling wine and visit Maderia. Beer expert Wise takes Fattorini to a pop-up Thai restaurant in London where the pair debate whether wine or beer is the perfect match.

Commenting on his involvement in the programme, West said: “When I was asked if I would like to join the Wine Show team recording in Portugal, trying some amazing wines, I couldn’t think of any reasons to say no! I love wine but I’m hardly an expert, so it’s been great fun to be on this journey of discovery and I’ve realised there’s lots to discover.”

Melanie Jappy, director of programmes for Infinity Creative Media, added: “From the moment Dominic arrived in Portugal it was clear he was going to be a brilliant addition to the Wine Show team. Not only is he a joy to work with, his enthusiasm and genuine curiosity about wine is utterly infectious. We’re so lucky to have him on board for this series and I hope, many more to come.”

Carlos Agrellos, technical director at Quinta Do Noval, this year’s headquarters, said: “We were delighted that The Wine Show chose such an historic Douro estate as Quinta do Noval as their HQ for the new series. And to bring our wines, including the unique Nacional, to their global audience. We continued to harvest around the filming – so 2019 will always be a very special vintage for us.”

Presenter Joe Fattorini commented: “This series of The Wine Show has taken me to some of the most ancient wine stories in the world. And the most unusual. Hopefully we bring the spotlight back on glorious, historic wines like Madeira but also show how wine is always evolving. I never knew there would be a series where we’d cover wine in Thailand and Rap Music. But this is it. To add Dominic into this mix has been brilliant. I learnt very quickly he has a keen mind for challenging and incisive questions.’’

The new series is set to air next year. The previous series are available on Amazon and the programme has been broadcast in over 100 countries.

The last series was broadcast in the UK in a peak time slot on Channel 5 and saw acclaimed wine writer Jancis Robinson join the team.

Not really helping to spread the diversity net, though…

What have these guys against Spain? Plenty of great wine in Spain too but it’s hardly been mentioned in the programmes so far.
